Travis Lawler coached eight years for Angelo State University after a playing career that saw him drafted twice and pitch at the Division I level.
The College Station, Texas native graduated from A&M-Consolidated High School before deciding to play college baseball for the Gators at the University of Florida over playing professionally for the Colorado Rockies who selected him in the 34th round of the Major League Baseball draft. He would appear in 11 games and record 24 strikeouts in his freshman season. Lawler would transfer to pitch at Midland College after one year in Gainesville, Fla. Lawler was then selected in the MLB draft for the second time – this time deciding to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2009. He played for the Johnson City Cardinals and Batavia Muckdogs.
